Two new comics in one week? What is this?! Well, it's only technically a new comic. Let me explain. My good friend Greth (the same talented fellow who made Summer Dreamspheres which I spoke about earlier) began his own reader-driven webcomic just last week within the Internet Detectives Discord server. Since Discord servers aren't exactly the most permanent and stable places to host webcomics, we've decided to host it here on Meat Ouchers!
Greth's new comic is called Spiff and it follows the adventures of the titular Andy Spiff. As I mentioned, the comic is reader driven just like Weenie-Licked and A Day With The Frycook. However, the interactivity is only occuring on the Internet Detectives Discord server - you won't find any submissions boxes here, only the archive of the comic. We're doing this to keep up that good ol' tried and true author-reader interaction. If you want to get involved, go ahead and join the Internet Detectives Discord server here!
It's also important to note that since this is merely an archive of a comic being posted elsewhere, and because said comic updates fairly rapidly, comic updates will NOT be shown on the front page. This is done because I don't want to draw attention away from the comic's main source of interaction, and also just so our update box doesn't get too busy. Anyways, if you want to start reading Spiff, click here!
We've got a big update for you all today, buddies - Meat Ouchers is now hosting another comic, "scout's specials" by the titular Scout himself. Those of you in the Within Hubris community probably already know Scout. He's a great artist with a knack for coming up with comedic comics on the fly, as we've seen during various Discord and Skype conversations. Scout's Specials is going to be just that - whatever crazy ideas just happen to pop into his head.
Definitely be on the lookout for scout's specials updates, as you can probably expect one once a week or so. Read the first comic here!
Hey guys, just a short update. First of all, the comic should be updated sometime this week after only, uh... three months of inactivity. The site is also now fully restructured in PHP so all broken pages and links should be fixed. If there's something I've overlooked though, please let me know.
Now onto something a bit more exciting. You guys in the Within Hubris squad may know that my good buddy Greth is a very talented composer. His newest album Summer Dreamsphere was released by Power Lunch just yesterday. Give it a listen here, especially if you're into vaporwave. Cassettes are also available if you wanna go ahead and show him your support.
You can also check out his other album, Exotica Ln. / COVΣNS, here. Be sure to keep an eye out for more of his work in the future.
Hello everyone, it's been a while. Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been working on a few other projects and unfortunately the comic has fallen a bit to the wayside. Updates should start back up soon, though. In the meantime, we have a few things going on here.
Let's get the boring thing out of the way first - site maintenance. I'm going to be converting many pages over from HTML to PHP so that doing sitewide updates will be easier in the future. This means the site will have broken links on a lot of pages for a short while. I'll be doing my best fix these as soon as possible.
Now for a more interesting update, the site now has a new feature - blogs. The contributors on this site will now be able to give you guys smaller updates that don't necessarily fit here as an announcement on their own Meat Ouchers-hosted blogs. The top of the front page will always display the most recent blog post, so keep an eye out for that.
A few updates for you guys. First of all, 'A Day With The Frycook' user commands are open, so go tell Buck to go do some dumb stuff. Jos has been putting a lot of work into ADWTF, and I think it's definitely paid off. Go check out the newest update here!
Also, mobile users may notice that the site has gotten an overhaul. Everything should be easier to see on smaller screens now.
That's about it. We're going to try to continue having a steady stream of updates coming, so be on the lookout for new comic pages.
Hey gamer girls, just a heads up. The site is probably going to look a little janky for a little while (Well, jankier than usual). I'm currently testing some mobile designs for the site so things will be a bit more ''''mobile friendly''''.
That's about it. Look forward to some broken pages for a few days. Alright cool.
"You can definitely expect at least one per week, which will usually include multiple pages."
Obviously by 'once per week' I meant once every two months. I'll just be honest - the delays were 90% the result of laziness. There was a lot of experimenting and thinking about what exactly I want to do with 'M.E.A.T.' during this time, but the vast majority of the time wasted was... bein' a lazy bastard.
We're back now, though. A 'once per week' update schedule will continue to be my goal, but that's not always going to happen... As you've all seen now. Anyways, new update is up. Now, time for another hiatus.
Big news, guys - we've got a new comic starting up! This comic is called 'A Day With The Frycook', and it's made by a really cool dude named Jos! 'A Day With The Frycook' is an interactive comic, just like the original 'Weenie-Licked'! Below the page you should see a 'Submit Command' button, where you can write in whatever you want the main character to do next. Go ahead and start reading it here!
This site is heavily inspired by the works of Andrew Hussie. I didn't call 'Weenie-Licked' 'MSPA RIPOFF 2.0' for nothin'. As such, the comics on here are going to be structured very similarly to his work.
As for navigation, we have some 'Comic Maps' over on the Search Page, where you can visually scan your eyeballs across some thumbnails to jump to a certain part of the comic. For a more comprehensive way of searching, there's also a text dump available for the comics, where you can use the good ol' Ctrl+F function. We also list all of the past and present comic updates in the Archives. Note that some comics update in batches, so not every single page will be listed, only the beginning of the updates.
As for updates themselves, there's really no set schedule. This is all done in our free time, so there's no way of telling when an update will be done. You can definitely expect at least one per week, which will usually include multiple pages. Like I mentioned before, this site will have some flash content. If your device can't run flash, don't worry about it. I'll provide text transcripts for all the flashes, along with a video of the flash itself on the official YouTube page. A lot of people are switching from Flash to HTML, as Flash is slowly becoming more dated. This sounds like a good idea, but I barely even know flash as it is. If we eventually have to switch over to HTML for these animations and whatnot, well, we'll just cross that bridge when we come to it. Again, the flash content will always be available in either video or text format if it cannot be viewed with your browser, so don't worry about missing anything.
The comic will also use some JavaScript for little buttons and stuff to view some extra content. Nothing major, but still things that you might miss if you have an extension like NoScript installed. We'll also be using some cookies, just for saving your position in the comic. Just a heads up in case you have those things blocked. That about covers it. If you see anything funky or ugly going on with the site, shoot me a message and let me know. Hopefully things will go smoothly.
Hey guys! Welcome to MEAT OUCHERS INC. This is our new site for webcomics - specifically ones pertaining to Within Hubris or Ben Drowned. If you've read 'Weenie-Licked', you'll know what this is all about. If you have no clue what any of this is, head over to the About Page. Hopefully it'll clear a few things up.
So what do we have going right now? Well, I have a new comic starting up, 'M.E.A.T.'. This comic takes place in the same continuity as 'Weenie-Licked', only set years prior. Don't sweat it if you haven't read 'Weenie-Licked', it isn't required reading to get into this new comic. You can start reading M.E.A.T. here. And for those of you who are missing Paul and the gang, don't fret - we'll be getting to them in due time.
Speaking of Paul, we also have 'Weenie-Licked' archived here. 'Weenie-Licked' started back in 2014, so it's a bit dated. Since it was inspired by the interactive comics of Andrew Hussie, 'Weenie-Licked' was driven by user commands from the 'Within Hubris' message boards. This means that the protagonist's actions were determined by whatever users posted in the thread. The result is a spontaneous comic filled with inside jokes and cameos of forum-goers. You can read it here, but, again, I recommend checking out the About Page if you're lost, since 'Weenie-Licked' relies heavily on the history of the forum. If you're just looking for a dumb comic full of bad puns though, it'll still provide that - with or without background knowledge.
We're also going to to have more comics start appearing on the site by some other folks, so make sure you keep an eye out for those! Until then, enjoy the bad meat puns and shoddy html. I'll keep you guys posted.
